The Chanute Blue Comets secured a 35-25 season-opening victory over Augusta on Friday night, powered by standout performances from Kris Harding II and Quinton Harding. 

The Comets used a balanced attack and capitalized on turnovers to start the season with a win.

Junior quarterback Kris Harding II threw for 184 yards and added a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win. 

Senior Quinton Harding rushed for 97 yards, including a 15-yard TD run. Trevor Fields, who finished with a team high 77 receiving yards, caught a 39-yard TD pass, while Landen Bilby returned an interception for a score.

Including Bilby’s pick six, the Comet defense forced five turnovers, including four interceptions. 

Chanute (1-0) will go on the road to face Coffeyville on Friday. .
